Laboratory equipment presented under the EU CBRN CoE project 53

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 30, a review meeting of the EU-funded CBRN Centres of Excellence project 53 ‘Strengthening the National Legal Framework and Provision of Specialized Training on Bio-Safety and Bio-Security in Central Asian Countries’ was organized. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism implemented the project through the National Committee on Biosafety for one and a half years from September 2017.


Within the scope of the project, several studies have been conducted to harmonize Mongolia’s national bio-safety and bio-security legal framework with the Biological Weapons Convention, United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540, and World Health Organization’s International Health Regulation. The studies will make a valuable contribution to improvement of Mongolia’s national bio-safety and bio-security legal framework, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Mongolia Traian Hristea and Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism L.Byambasuren. Moreover, a number of capacity-building training have been provided to a total of 339 specialists.



During the event, the second batch of the laboratory equipment that are being supplied under the project was handed over to the Customs General Administration, National Emergency Management Agency, General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, National Center for Communicable Disease, National Center for Zoonotic Disease, and State Central Veterinary and Hygiene Laboratory.
