Long-distance transportation shortened

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ During its regular meeting on November 28, the Cabinet made a decision to make existing very long-distance coal transportation from Tavantolgoi to Gashuunsukhait and Gantsmod have long-short intervals. By doing so, drivers who transport coal will no longer to be on long queue which has currently reached around 137kms. They will unload the coal at Tsagaan Khad’s customs control zone and drive back to the mine site.


At the meeting, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh requested the authorities of 161 coal transporting companies to raise the drivers pay.

Furthermore, it was decided to intensify the constructional work of a facility for the drivers which will contain a parking space for 2500 trucks and rooms for rest and to regularize mobile medical services.  


Corresponding ministry put forward a request to Oyu Tolgoi Company regarding the use of auto road to decrease the queue of vehicles. Accordingly, loads of over 1700 trucks have been unloaded in Tsagaan Khad, closing a traffic movement of the road’s opposite direction and emptied trucks have been driven back through the road of Oyu Tolgoi Company. The transportation companies are providing the drivers with food, warm clothes, fuel and other required items.


There are 6781 vehicles that obtain a permit ‘C’ which is authorized to transport coal between Mongolia and China. Including those that transport coal without crossing the border, there are 13 thousand drivers operating 13079 trucks to transport coal.
