Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Cabinet tasked Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen to run harvesting operations urgently and properly as circumstances indicate possible prolonging in harvest.
During the Cabinet’s regular meeting on August 23, the Minister delivered a report on preliminary harvest balance. A total of 271.8 thousand tons of crop, of which 259.2 thousand tons of wheat, 102.3 thousand tons of potatoes, 75.7 thousand tons of vegetables, 23.6 thousand tons of oil plants and 47.3 thousand tons of fodder plants are expected to be harvested.
Due to weather and environmental conditions, crop loss on 90.3 thousand ha of land, including 77.7 thousand ha for wheat is anticipated. According to preliminary estimations, 74.6 percent of wheat-planted land would be harvested to satisfy 54.3 percent of the expected wheat yield, 52.5 percent of domestic flour demand, 74.5 percent of potatoes, and 44.6 percent of vegetables.
In addition to uneven plant maturity, cases of late-grown crop and delay in maturity have arisen after continued rain in the first and second ten days of August. As such, the Ministry is handing out technical recommendations on how to harvest without loss in these circumstances where harvest could prolong.
