Burkhan Buudai Sacred Mountain Worshipped

Ceremony for Burkhan Buudai Mountain, a mountain of the Altai Mountains was held
on July 20, 2024. One of two mountains revered as “God”, Burkhan Buudai
Mountain was declared a State Worshipped Sacred Mountain under the Decree of
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa in 2023, to preserve the ecosystem, plants,
and animals of the Mountain and its surroundings pristine and protect historical
and cultural monuments there.
The first-ever
State Worship Ceremony for Burkhan Buudai Mountain commenced with Buddhist rituals,
including placing sacred sutras and chanting sutras.
Under guard,
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa was welcomed to a special place as the
representative of the State. Guards of Honor raised the National Flag, the Southern
Banner of the Army Black Banners, and some others, also placing a Portrait of
Great Chinggis Khaan and Seven State Treasures.
President
of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa highlighted that the state ceremonies to worship
sacred mountains are a unique historical and cultural heritage and longstanding
valuable state tradition of Mongolia and important for protecting, loving, and revering
mother nature. The President requested the people of Gobi-Altai to work
hard for the further development of their motherland, which has a pristine
nature and a rich treasure of human heritage.
The Ceremony of worshipping the Burkhan Buudai Mountain contained numerous intangible cultural heritage elements such as singing an Altai Epic and consecrating a horse as a ride of heaven.
