Mongolian National Committee on Development of Tourism Convenes
SocietyUlaanbaatar, February 29, 2024. /MONTSAME/. The National Committee on Tourism Development, headed by Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, held its first meeting of 2024 on February 28, 2024.
The Government of Mongolia has
declared 2023-2025 as the "Years to Visit Mongolia." Last year, the
country received 651,061 tourists, generating about USD 1.2 billion or MNT 4.4
trillion in revenue. In 2023, the Government approved plans and allocated funds
for events aimed at attracting tourists. A total of 69 events including 23
special programs were supported. With a special program targeted to tourists
from China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, and Japan, creating a favorable
legal environment for the tourism industry, and implementing comprehensive
international advertising and marketing measures to promote Mongolia globally,
the number of users interested in the country on online platforms is
increasing.
To develop winter tourism,
Khuvsgul Aimag has launched the "Blue Bear" campaign. The aimag introduced
the "One Tourist - One Sheep" program aiming at boosting community-based
tourism. Moreover, tourists have been exempted
from value-added taxes.
To promote Mongolia abroad and
increase tourist flow in 2024, the "Go MonGOlia" event is planned for
target countries. At the meeting of the National Committee, a secretariat in
charge of identifying pressing issues to develop tourism and submitting
proposals to the National Committee on Development of Tourism and the
Government was established. Additionally, the Committee decided to provide
policy support to the construction of tourism infrastructure to ensure
comfortable travel for tourists visiting Mongolia.
