Society
Dubai, December 4, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP28 is taking place in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, between November 30 and December 12, 2023.
Environment and Green
Development Adviser to the President of Mongolia N. Batkhuu said, “During the
United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP28, heads of State and Governments
report on the progress achieved and put proposals for the upcoming measures to
mitigate climate impacts and their adverse effects, particularly under the
Paris Agreement. In response to the over 20 documents proposed at the
Conference, Mongolia is expressing its commitment to cooperate and join in some
declarations and commitments, based on relevant research and the
recommendations of relevant ministries. These commitments involve critical
issues such as the food system, climate change, and public health.
Moreover, a new theme of
COP28 was the issue of ensuring children's participation in activities aimed at
mitigating climate change and its adverse effects. In this regard, Mongolia
expressed its intention to join the three declarations initiated by the host
country, the United Arab Emirates. These are the documents related to
sustainable agriculture, food system, health, and climate issues.”
Director of the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia Tserendulam Shagdarsuren noted, “The United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP28 prioritizes action over new commitment, emphasizing implementation, cooperation, and inter-sectoral coordination. Before the COP28, discussions centered on successfully implementing the Paris Agreement. In this context, a USD 429 million fund was established to combat climate change. As of now, five countries have joined the effort to raise this fund. With the conference still ongoing, this amount is likely to increase further. Between 2020 and 2023, over USD500 million were invested in 23 major projects.”
