Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On October 18, the ‘Wool, cashmere, and leather products-2020’ expo opened at Misheel Expo.

At the opening ceremony, Director of Light Industry Policy Implementation and Coordination Department of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry M.Dondogdorj highlighted that the expo is conducted for achieving the objective to increase commodity processing and export, and noted that three leather and shoe-making factories have introduced international standards in their manufacturing process this year. He also highlighted that the construction work for the leather processing complex has begun in Darkhan-Uul and Khovd aimags.

“With the objective to boost the capacity of wool and cashmere processing in the sector, works are being implemented to have at least 60 percent of the commodities being prepared currently into final products. Domestic factories have enhanced their processing for commodities as well as the designs for their products in preparation for the resumption of cashmere product exports that have temporarily stopped due to the pandemic. More specifically, the ‘Mongolian Noble Fibre’ brand has been further developed for exports,” he said.

Large scale factories that manufacture products for both domestic and foreign consumers, such as ‘Gobi’, ‘Goyo’, ‘Goyol’, ‘Khanbogd Cashmere’, and ‘Darkhan Nekhii’, as well as over 120 factories specializing in wool, cashmere, and leather processing are participating in the expo.

Despite the limitation in participating in international fairs and expos, domestic factories have focused on developing their online stores to continue to make sales, informed the officials of the Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association.
