President exchanges views regarding situations of drought-hit aimags
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. During recent meetings held by
President Kh. Battulga in rural areas, herders of some aimags affected by the
drought, claimed about the sharp declines in the livestock productivity and household
incomes and the critical situations they are facing to lose a large number of
animals if it becomes harsh winter, and put forth taking immediate measures.
Therefore, on October 16, President Kh. Battulga met with MPs
elected from the drought-hit aimags, authorities of the aimags, and relevant
officials and exchanged views regarding the requests put by rural citizens and herders.
According to the relevant study, the livelihood of more than
80,000 herders and 7-10 million head of livestock in 75 soums of Uvurkhangai,
Bayankhongor, Gobi-Altai, Arkhangai, Dundgobi and Umnugobi aimags, which may experience
disastrous wintering due to the drought in 2020-2021, are estimated
to be at risk.
The President of Mongolia considers that instead of anticipating
potential risks, it will be the best solution to conduct immediate management to
overcome with the minimal loss, and ensure coherence between the public and
private sectors to make relevant decisions in a short period of time.
