Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports B.Bayarsaikhan received corresponding executives and researchers of World Vision Mongolia, Mobicom Corporation and Mongol Koosen to discuss ways to improve the lavatories of kindergartens and schools in rural areas.

As most of the kindergartens and schools in rural areas of the country still have pit latrines, the Ministry is implementing a project in partnership with international organizations to create a safe study environment for children and solve the issue of latrines.

The organizations making the most contributions are the World Vision International and the Mobicom Corporation of Mongolia, which have been working in partnership with the Ministry to solve the issue since 2014. In the frameworks of the project, they created comfortable bathrooms for 52,000 children in 80 soums.

The researchers at Mongol Koosen introduced a new blueprint, which improved the Ministry’s blueprint of the container-turned-bathroom, approved in 2017, by reducing its water usage and solving the issue of electricity with solar energy along with being made with a more durable material. Not only does it cost no more than the previous blueprint, but it also has various advantages, such as being accessible to children with disabilities, have the waiting time for children to use the bathroom less than 75 seconds as well as connecting it to the school building to prevent the children from being out in the cold. If bathrooms are built by the new blueprint for 8,000 school children, it is calculated to save 14 million cubic meters of water.
