Ministry demands improvement of services at tour camps

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Environment and Tourism has begun to send formal notices to tour camps to improve their services.
The action is a part of the Ministry’s efforts to reach its objective to receive 1 million tourists annually.
“Mongolia needs an integrated travel itinerary. Adoption of such an itinerary will clarify what investment is needed in a certain region by the private sector and the government. The standards of tour services offered by Mongolian businesses and tour operators along the itinerary will have to be improved. We will shut down tour camps and businesses not complying with the basic standards. In the last two decades, private sector investment dominated the tourism industry. Policy level support wasn’t given to the industry. We requested a long-term loan for the tourism industry from the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which might take time. In return, we will demand quality and a better standard of services from businesses. We will review the star ratings of hotels and demand services that equal their ratings. Thus, we can strengthen the basis for the big objective,” said N.Tserenbat, Minister of Environment and Tourism in an interview with MONTSAME.
He also added, “In order to join in the cultural routes and itineraries adopted by the United Nations and the World Tourism Organization, we must accredit the current itinerary. This is not just a tourism industry issue, but involves other sectors such as road and transport; so there is a need for an integrated policy. Basically, it is a call to join efforts towards a goal that will be achieved in about 10 years.”
