Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Flu season begins in October and lasts until March each year. During this time, the ones who are affected the most are children aged 5 years or younger. It comes as no surprise that childcare units of district health centers are busiest at this time of the year.

Considering the situation, ‘Ulaanbaatar - Fresh Air’ project, funded by World Bank, installed 200 air purifying units in district health centers, public hospitals and birth centers. In addition, the Cabinet handed out 230 units to be put in classrooms of schools and kindergartens located in highly polluted ger district areas. Moreover, another 365 units are in the plans.

This has positive implications because the purifiers improve air quality of childcare rooms, leading to faster recovery and decreased risk of repeated infection of children treated for influenza and similar diseases, reported Ulaanbaatar’s Health Department.
