Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MFALI) will realize 11 national programs in 2018. The Parliament’s Standing Committee on Environment, Food and Agriculture members were familiarized with activities of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry on January 08 and Minister B.Batzorig briefly presented its policy, objectives and activities, mentioning that to create a favorable legal environment for people working in the sector, the Ministry intends to propose 8 bills, formulate 6 legislations and realize 11 projects in 2018.

Among the programs, Minister Batzorig emphasized ‘The Greenhouse Farm’ program aimed to domestically grow  main vegetables to meet demand 100 percent and decrease imported products. In addition, ‘The Cashmere’ national program will keep 60 percent of prepared cashmere for use by domestic factories to build current assets and step up factory productivity. This is expected to increase spinning thread production threefold, and final product manufacturing by 4 times – leading to MNT 4 trillion sales, USD 740 million export and 3600 new job creation.

Implementing national programs ‘Animal health’ and ‘Supporting development of intensive livestock farming’  will increase possibilities to export animal origin products by limiting disease spreading conditions and introducing comprehensive actions for improving livestock health.

MP L.Eldev-Ochir gave suggestions relating to the presentation, saying “Special attention must be given on composition, ideology and quality of bills to be submitted. On the other hand, laws on Animal Genetic Resources and Animal Health were passed last year, effective starting 1st of June this year. Thus it’s necessary to prepare for their implementation by promoting the laws to public.” He also requested that MFALI establish  a working group responsible for revising law on Procurement of goods, works and services with state and local funds.
