Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, December 29 marks the 106th anniversary of the Restoration of National Freedom and Independence of Mongolia.

On the occasion, a wreath-laying ceremony was held in front of the Chinggis Khaan Statue on the central square. President Kh.Battulga, Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold and Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, as well as Members of the Parliament and the Cabinet were present to honor the Great Khaan.

On this day in 1911, Mongolia restored its independence after about 200 years of Manchu rule with a national movement known as the 1911 Revolution. On December 29, the Mongolian people enthroned the 8th Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutuktu as the King of Mongolia and a theocratic ruler. With the enthronement, Mongolia became a Bogd Khaanate.

Having laid the foundation for the revival of Mongolia, the 1911 Revolution is an event worthy of utmost significance in the history of modern Mongolia and a proud historic moment to be remembered and cherished by the future generations. The liberation of Mongolia in 1911 is considered to have necessitated the 1921 People’s Revolution, by fulfilling Mongolia’s long struggle to restore national freedom.

Pursuant to parliamentary resolutions, December 29 was made a public celebration day on August 16, 2007, and a public holiday on December 23, 2011.

In dedication to the 106th anniversary of the Restoration of National Freedom and Independence, a wrestling tournament of 128 wrestlers will be held today.
