Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On November 21, a workshop titled ‘Accelerating sustainable development through green finance: green certification and eco-labeling’ is taking place on its second day in Ulaanbaatar.

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), UNESCAP, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) are jointly organizing the workshop.

At the workshop participants are discussing green development policy to satisfy Mongolia’s sustainable development and its mechanisms of implementation. The MET specialists  reported about Mongolia’s present green development policy. A representative from the UNESCAP provided a presentation on present state of Mongolia’s sustainable development, review and procession of documentation. Also, KEITI specialists shared their experience on introducing green financing and green certification system.

In compliance with the indispensable necessity to introduce eco-friendly methods and technology, to form nature-oriented attitudes and habits and to create optimal promotional mechanisms, a regulation was approved last September in Mongolia to promote individuals, businesses and organizations that introduced technologies harmless to nature.

To satisfy implementation of the regulation, the MET is currently working to formulate accurate criteria on issuing a green certification to those who introduced eco-friendly technology and methods into production and on creating eco-labeling for production of eco-products and services.
