Society
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, June 29, Arig Bank announced the "Let's fight Air Pollution together!" challenge with an objective to reduce carbon dioxide emissions coming from Ger districts by discovering the best heating, energy generation and supply solutions and testing, applying them in practice. Best solutions will be rewarded with MNT100 million.
Air pollution in urban centers of Mongolia, including the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, has reached "state of emergency" level. 80 per cent of the air pollution in Ulaanbaatar is being caused by raw coal burning by households in Ger districts and by micro power stations, 10 per cent attributed to automobile emissions while 6 per cent being produced by power plants and 4 per cent from other sources. Therefore, Arig Bank is implementing the project, as part of its efforts for making real contributions in building a sustainable future for Mongolia.
The project will run for 4 years in three phases, including Best Solutions selection process; Piloting and Development; and Application in practice and Monitoring. “The Best Solution(s)”, the organizers mean, are technologies that generate heating and energy for gher area households, with the least negative footprint on the environment and households' safety and income.
Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Health and Energy Ministries, Energy Regulation Commission, Governor’s office of the capital, Global Green Growth Institute and UNDP will collaborate in the project. Within the project ‘Technology and Financial solution’ forum will be held tomorrow in the Blue Sky Hotel. More detailed information is available at http://sustainable.arigbank.mn
