Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Under the Business Excellence for Sustainability and Transparency (BEST) program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Development Solutions NGO on September 29 held the ‘Tomorrow’s SME’ virtual forum.
The purpose of the forum was to help SMEs identify promising directions in a world that changed and inspire them for a successful transition. This is the second flagship forum hosted by USAID’s BEST program following its in-person forum last year.
In his remarks delivered during the opening of the forum,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the U.S. to Mongolia Michael S.
Klecheski highlighted the significance of organizing this forum amid the
current situation of the pandemic, while calling to change mindsets and
strategies to adapt to the changing world.
At this year's forum, six speakers, including top entrepreneurs, business consultants, and experts, shared their experiences and knowledge on topics such as their vision and perspective. Speakers spoke about the opportunities and challenges posed by the pandemic and what changes SMEs can make to grow their businesses in a sustainable and flexible way. In addition, a panel discussion was held involving SMEs on the ways to improve their resilience to the post-pandemic situation.
To make the forum more comprehensive and effective, and
to increase access to people who are unable to attend in person for work or
personal reasons, it has been streamed live on social media channels such as
YouTube and Facebook, and can be viewed on the BEST program’s social pages. The
forum was attended by more than 500 participants, including representatives of
SMEs, 10 commercial banks, and government officials from Ulaanbaatar and 8
aimags.
Launched in December 2019 by Development Solutions NGO for a period of 5 years with the funding of the USAID, the BEST program provides capacity building training, loan brokerage services, and specialized counseling services to increase the contribution of Mongolian SMEs to the economy. In the future, the BEST program will open branches in Khentii, Khuvsgul, Umnugovi and Uvurkhangai aimags and expand its activities.
