Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Last weekend the city authorities paid tribute to the monument, erected in 1999 on the area where the foundation of Mongolia’s first capital city was laid.

Present at the ceremony were R.Dagva, Chairman of Citizens' Representative Khural (City Council), S.Amarsaikhan, Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Ts.Baasanjav, former city mayor, other officials as well as local residents.

In 1639, the First Bogd Gegeen Zanabazar had a first haircut ceremony at his age of five and established a settlement named ‘Shar Busiin Ordon’ (Yellow Palace) at Lake Shireet Tsagaan (present Burd soum of Uvurkhangai aimag). It is considered the first foundation of Mongolia’s capital.

The event was traditionally featured with Buddhist rituals, cultural performance of Ulaanbaatar Ensemble and mini-Naadam festival.
