Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its meeting held on August 28, the Cabinet approved an updated version of the regulation to select the best herder families, farmers and dairy farmers. The necessary funds for their awards will be allocated to annual state budget. The best individuals and families will be selected based on their herding and farming performance,  proper use of pastureland, efforts to improve animal quality, breeding and their yield and increase of job places in the agriculture industry, production of healthy dairy products and their social benefits and their contribution to the poverty reduction.

Land degradation has been worsening due to human activities in recent years. The capacity of grazing land in Mongolia is deemed to be around 84.6 million sheep and during the years hit by droughts, the total capacity is often reduced by 30 percent. According to a census made at the end of last year, the population of livestock animal in Mongolia was counted at 66.5 million, which is considered equal to 111 million sheep, exceeding the capacity by 25.4 million animals. In this respect, the regulation has been renewed so that the best herders and herding families, farmers and dairy-farmers will be selected with scientific reasoning.
