70th Republic Day of India celebrated in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A ceremony for the 70th Republic Day of India took place on January 25 in Shangri-La hotel.

Members of Parliament and Cabinet, honorary guests from diplomatic and public organizations and Indian citizens living in Mongolia attended the honorary ceremony.

Opening the ceremony, Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy of India in Mongolia O.P.Meena and Minister of Defense of Mongolia N.Enkhbold delivered remarks.



“India-Mongolia cooperation have been developed appreciably until today. Specially, two countries are closely cooperating in the areas such as defense, border protection, education and culture,” said O.P.Meena, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of India in Mongolia and highlighted the agreement of USD 1 billion soft loan for the project on building oil refinery in Mongolia.



Defense Minister N.Enkhbold emphasized that India and Mongolia have a long history of cultural and spiritual bonds. “Mongolia gives great significance to the relations and cooperation with India, considering the country as the major partner and the 3rd neighbor in the region. Over 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the countries have been collaborating closely in all social fields. It is pleasant to say that cooperation between the two countries in defense sector have been developing more.”


During the ceremony, Mr. O.P.Meena presented a Thank you Letter to State Honored Artist T.Ariunaa. He underlined that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi enjoyed her singing of a song ‘Vaishnav Jana To’ for the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and twitted it.



A competition to sing the song ‘Vaishnav Jana To’ was announced in 150 countries dedicating to the 150th birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in which singer T.Ariunaa represented Mongolia and many people not only in India also in other countries listened her singing.


The two countries have relations from ancient time. Some historians consider it has started 10 thousand years ago. According to some scientific facts, Mongolia and India were in close contacts  3700 years ago. Mongolia and India have same religion and spirituality. In particular, there are historic sources that tell Buddhism came from India to Mongolia in 2-3 century, Ambassador of Mongolia, Ph.D O.Nyamaa stated.
