Mongolian students to receive medical degree scholarships

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and the International University of Health and Welfare of Japan (IUHW) signed on a Memorandum of Understanding on giving the university scholarships to Mongolian students. On June 22, 2018, Minister Ts.Tsogzolmaa had a meeting with the IUHW BoD Chairman Kuninori Takagi and made an official request to provide support from the side of Japan in preparing workforce in the medical sector. As accordingly to the request, the IUHW announced its decision to give scholarships to Mongolian students for the next 5 years.



With this memorandum up to 10 Mongolian students will be able to receive scholarships in 9 majors, such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and hearing. Minister Ts.Tsogzolmaa said, “We will form a joint working group with the IUHW  to decide on how the scholarship recipients will be selected. The rules and regulations will be posted later on the Ministry’s site for the public.”


The tuition fee and living expenses will be covered by the Japanese side, ranging from 9.7 million yen to 18.3 million yen (MNT 220.644.000-415.410.000) spent per student depending on their chosen major. Considering the Mongolian side fully uses the scholarship programme by sending 10 students each year, the Japanese side will be investing a total of MNT 4.1 billion.
