Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ During its regular meeting on August 8, the Cabinet backed the modified traffic rules of Mongolia, which will come into effect from next November. The modified traffic rules involves many amendments for decreasing speed-caused accidents, protecting pedestrians and drivers, preventing children from traffic accidents, creating safe and trouble-free conditions for people with disabilities to participate in traffic movement as well as reducing traffic jam.

For instance, it is banned to leave a child under 10 in the car alone. Protective device or special supplementary seat must be used for children up to 10 years old, when taking them in the car. Moreover, the rules say that no pedestrian shall cross road while engaged in a phone call, viewing a mobile electronic device or with both ears covered or obstructed by personal audio equipment, and playing with sport devices, such as roller skate.

To reduce accidents caused by speeding, higher speed than 20km/h is banned in areas along the roads, such as areas of entertainment, trade and service places which are commonly crowded by pedestrians.

In addition, all drivers shall be obligatory for providing first-aid and calling police and ambulance in case of a serious injury to human life and health, or property, as well as in obvious event of natural disaster and risks of other damages.
