Project implemented to add value to animal raw materials

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ As part
of the White Gold project aimed at improving the livelihood of herders and
reducing unemployment rate by adding value to animal raw materials, a team made
up of some participants of the LEAD program implemented by World Learning NGO
with funding support from the U.S. Agency for International Development conducted
a campaign to add value to animal raw materials.
The goals of the campaign were
to encourage herders to make their animal raw materials more valuable, how the
raw materials’ value can be raised by the introduction of electric shearing and
processing, and supply high quality organic wool to world brands. Specifically,
10 herder families of Tsgaaannuur soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag were provided
training on electric shearing and sheep clippers and a video was created to
provide instructions on electric shearing.
On September 29, a meeting was
held between officials of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry led
by State Secretary T.Jambaltseren and representatives of USAID and the project team,
during which 330 compact discs containing the abovementioned video and 21 sheep
clippers were handed over to the Ministry that had a key role in the successful
implementation of the project.
