Hay and fodder to be delivered to five aimags in severe wintering condition

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. According to the National Agency of
Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture
and Light Industry (MFALI), the wintering condition has worsened in Gobi-Altai,
Umnugobi, Dundgobi, Uvurkhangai and Bayankhongor aimags. Considering the
situation, the MFALI has decided to deliver hay and fodder to herders of these
aimags within this month.
Specifically, the MFALI is collaborating with other
ministries and relevant organizations to deliver hay and fodder assistance to
herders of the aimags and herders wintering in transhumant areas, beginning
next week or January 11, reported D. Batmunkh, head of the MFALI Department for
Animal Husbandry Policy and Implementation Coordination.
The Government had decided to provide 3,800 tons of hay free of charge and 1,900 tons of fodder with 50 percent discount from the state reserve to more than 40,000 herder households in the aimags experiencing severe wintering.
Moreover, assistance worth USD5 million being provided by
World Bank’s Livestock Commercialization Project will be distributed to herders
of the above aimags within this month.
Currently, all soums of Gobi-Altai, Dundgobi, Uvurkhangai
and Bayankhongor aimags and some soums of Umnugobi aimag are suffering severe
winter at risk of dzud disaster.
