Shortage of 154.5 thousand tons of wheat anticipated

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Preliminary harvest balance anticipates that 259,2 thousand tons of wheat will be sent to threshing floor this year.
The Cabinet meeting on August 23, Wednesday discussed the report of preliminary harvest balance delivered by Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry. Out of the estimated amount of wheat, 30 thousand tons of seed will be reserved for the 2018 sowing, 20.7 thousand tons for fodder and 12.9 thousand tons for alcohol production. Therefore, a measure will be taken to generate the reserve through purchasing of 30 thousand tons of wheat seed by Crop Farming Supporting Fund.
According to the Ministry, 320 thousand tons of wheat are needed to fully supply the domestic flour demand, and it was calculated that 165.5 thousand tons of wheat will be processed for flour production, meaning that there could be a shortage of 154.5 thousand tons of wheat this year. Prime Minister J.Erdenebat said the issue of wheat import will be discussed after purchase of wheat from domestic manufacturers.
