“Kharkhorum” joint project to be kept under auspices of President

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office P.Tsagaan received Monday leaders of the Mongolia-Germany “Kharkhorum” joint project, in the State House.

P.Tsagaan said the previous Presidents of Mongolia paid a particular attention to the “Kharkhorum” project, and it is kept on under auspices of the incumbent President. He added that the President is attaching importance to the 800th anniversary of Kharkhorum city to be celebrated in 2020.

Launched in 1998 in scope of the cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia and the German Institute of Archeology, the “Kharkhorum” joint project went under auspices of the Presidents of both countries in 2000. The President of Germany Joachim Gauck has confirmed to continue this project as well.

The German delegation included Prof. H.Huttel, former manager of the project; and the current manager Ms K.Franken arrived here to attend an opening ceremony took place Sunday in Kharkhorin soum for an outdoor museum founded on remains of Kharkhorum city.

Having continued for some 20 years now, the explorations and expedition in Khakhorum ancient city made a number of sources and information about Kharkhorum’s history clearer and provided possibilities for building up a chronology of settlement history in the capital city of the Great Mongolian Empire.

The meeting was witnessed by Mr Gerhard Thiedemann, the Ambassador of Germany to Mongolia; Mr M.Rossbach, the first secretary of the German Embassy in Mongolia; and Mr T.Galbaatar, the scholar secretary of the Academy of Sciences.
