Bighorn sheep population increases
Economy | AgricultureUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ According to a census conducted in 2014, a population of Mongolian mountain sheep–known as Argali–in Uvs aimag reached 1,541. The census covered the natural reserve of Tsagaan Shuvuut (White Bird) Mountain, the basin of the Tsagaan Gol (White river), Mandakh dunes and Khurmiin Mountains.
Number of Argali (species Ovis ammon) in Uvs aimag stood at 1,046 in 2012.
According to 2015 census in Ikh Nart natural reserve, located in Dornogovi, the Argali population was counted exceeding one thousand.
