Ulaanbaatar, January 13, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The exhibition of the best works from the 29th International Contest “Best Mongol Calligrapher–2025” is being presented to the public at the Mongolian National Art Gallery from January 12, 2026.
MONTSAME Mongolian
National News Agency has been organizing the contest annually since 1997 with
the noble mission of promoting and disseminating the national vertical Mongol script
both domestically and internationally.
The 29th competition drew more than 1,100 participants who submitted their calligraphic works and manuscripts. Participants included Mongol script practitioners from the United States, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, and the Republic of Buryatia of the Russian Federation, as well as from all aimags and districts of the capital city, except Gobisumber, Bayan-Ulgii, and Uvurkhangai aimags. From these submissions, 70 outstanding works were selected and are now on display at the exhibition.
The award ceremony of the 29th International Contest “Best Mongol Calligrapher–2025” and the official opening of the exhibition of selected works will take place at the Art Gallery on January 15, 2026.
A distinctive feature of this year’s contest is that the themes for its eight categories were selected from the literary works of Rinchen Byamba, one of the founders of modern Mongolian literature and a leading scholar of the 20th century. Another notable highlight is that, for the first time, members of foreign diplomatic missions took part in the competition. Specifically, three staff members from the Embassy of the United States to Mongolia participated, and Ambassador Richard Buangan is reported to be independently studying the traditional Mongol script from the basics.
