Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On September 1, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene became acquainted with the preparations carried out for the new academic year for 2021-2022 at School No. 17 of the capital city.

After greeting the teachers and students, the Prime Minister said, “Due to the pandemic, it is saddening to know that 112 million children of 13 countries have yet to return to school as of today. This is a loss that can never be recovered. As the number of cases are likely to increase due to the increase in movement, it is important for everyone to be responsible and follow the infection prevention guidelines. If we are able to create a new culture for citizens to be more involved during the pandemic, it will also become possible to organize in-class lessons uninterruptedly. Thus, all sides must be responsible in their roles.”

Noting that general education schools will no longer be working triple shifts from this year and that there is enough classroom capacity for students, he noted how 64.4 percent of the total population of Mongolia has become fully vaccinated. As 75 percent of children aged 12-17 have been administered with COVID-19 vaccines alongside teachers being vaccinated with their third dose, he expressed satisfaction with the necessary conditions that have been created in order to resume school operations.

As a result of the digital transitions works carried out in the education sector, the school has fully utilized the SOLS-17 system for their classes since November last year. With the use of the digital system, training has been organized for teachers to learn how to prepare interactive video lessons. “Through the training, 15 teachers at the school have met the requirements to become an instructor for teaching others about the system. And a total of 2,618 lessons and video content were prepared by the teachers so far,” said the school principal.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, about 720 thousand children will be studying at general education schools, of which 340 thousand are in the capital city, and 380 thousand in rural areas of the country. Some 81 thousand children are beginning school.
