4,000 kg vegetable seeds to be given to crop farmers
Economy | AgricultureUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 17, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan and Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) in Mongolia Vinod Ahuja signed a USD 62 thousand technical assistance project document, which will be implemented within the UN efforts on reducing the impact of COVID-19 on food security and nutrition.
In frames of the project, 4,000 kg of vegetable seeds will be provided to 1430 crop farmers in the central farming region of the country and the farmers will be involved in training on technical knowledge and capacity building.
During the signing event, Minister Ch.Ulaan said “The assistance of vegetable seed will become a huge support to our vegetable, fruit and berry farmers and growers. Government organizations will be responsible for resolving land-related issues. I would like to express gratitude on behalf of the Government of Mongolia on fulfilling actions to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on food security and nutrition during this important time when the spring sowing is to commence very soon.”
In response, UNFAO Representative Vinod Ahuja said “First of all, in connection with the current situation and secondly, with a view to advance Government objectives, we are cooperating to implement the project, which aims to render support on provision of vegetable seeds. We will give assistance on providing 1400 households, who run family business as planting vegetables, with various vegetable seeds. We deem that the work is significant not only to increase vegetable consumption, but also to give positive impact on micronutrient deficiency issue. I am also hopeful that the project would be realized successfully and make its tangible contribution in health-related issues of Mongolians."
