429 vertebrate species recorded in Khovd aimag
EnvironmentKhovd /MONTSAME/ Today marks the World Wildlife Day. In
2013, the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 3 March, the day
of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
of Wild Fauna and Flora in 1973, as World Wildlife Day.
A total of 79 genera and 429 species of vertebrates have
been recorded in Khovd aimag which means 65.9 percent of Mongolia’s vertebrate
population inhibit there.
Khovd aimag is home to 17 out of the 26 species of animals categorized as Very Rare in the Mongolian Law on Fauna or 65.4 percent
of the species’ total population. Many of the animals listed in the Mongolian
Red Book of Endangered Animals such as mountain sheep, saiga antelope, siberian
ibex, onager,
black-tailed gazelle, and snow
leopard widely inhabit in the aimag territory.
