Travel Conditions for Mongolian Citizens Visiting South Korea to Be Reviewed

Ulaanbaatar, August 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Chairman of the State Great Khural (Parliament) Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won-shik held an official meeting on July 30, 2025, according to the Media and Public Relations Department of the State Great Khural.
During the meeting, Chairman Amarbayasgalan expressed his pleasure at meeting again since Mr. Woo Won-shik’s official visit to Mongolia in April 2025. The Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia emphasized his commitment to further deepening and strengthening relations and cooperation with Mongolia’s important “third neighbor” and close regional partner in Northeast Asia, with common values of upholding democracy, human rights, and the market economy
Moreover, Chairman Amarbayasgalan requested a timely resolution of the challenges facing the “Construction of Thermal Power Plants in Ten Aimag Capitals” project, being implemented in Mongolia with concessional loans from the Republic of Korea, and urged attention to the selection of a new contractor.
Additionally, Chairman of the Parliament of Mongolia Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve requested special attention from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to ensure equal travel conditions for citizens of both countries, to ease travel requirements for Mongolian citizens visiting the Republic of Korea for medical, humanitarian, or other respectful reasons, and to address the issue of Mongolian nationals being denied entry at the Korean border.
Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Mr. Woo Won-shik emphasized his commitment to ensuring the prompt normalization and successful implementation of the “Construction of Thermal Power Plants in Ten Aimag Capitals” project following his official visit to Mongolia, and stated that efforts are being made to explore ways to ease travel conditions for Mongolian citizens to the Republic of Korea. Mr. Woo Won-shik noted that options under consideration include the introduction of electronic visas, the expansion of consular staff at the Embassy, and the simplification of visa procedures for citizens traveling in organized groups.
The two sides shared views on the matters agreed upon during the visit to Mongolia within the framework of enhancing substantive economic cooperation.
