President receives United Nations Special Rapporteur

of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received Michel Forst, the United Nations
Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, on May 3. Civil
Society and Human Rights Policy Advisor to the President G.Uyanga was present
at the meeting.
During his visit to Mongolia
which concludes on May 13, Special Rapporteur Mr. Forst will assess the
situation of human rights defenders and present a report. In this regard, he
plans to meet the leaderships of some institutions, including the Parliament,
the Cabinet, the administrative courts, and the Prosecutor General’s Office and
work in rural areas.
Mr. Forst informed President
Battulga that he would be presenting his preliminary observations, based on his
assessment of the issues and legal environment surrounding human rights
defenders in Mongolia, to the Government of Mongolia at the conclusion of his
visit. The comprehensive report will be presented to the 43rd session of the UN
Human Rights Council.
The UN Special Rapporteur
discussed with President Battulga about the possibility of improving the
situation and upgrading the legal status of human rights defenders in Mongolia.
