'One day of Mongolian Nomads' event takes place in Umnugobi aimag

Umnugobi /MONTSAME/ An event themed ‘One day of Mongolian Nomads’ took place in Mandakh bagh, Khankhongor soum of Umnugobi aimag on August 5.

Held for the third year, the event was co-organized by the local herders, the Association of Mongolian Gobi herders and Green Gold Project and sponsored by the Council of Umnugobi aimag in Ulaanbaatar and the Governor’s Office of Umnugobi aimag.

During the event, various competitions were organized including collecting cow manure and horse culture of Mongolians which delighted the audience. Moreover, the herders demonstrated livestock related work activities and rituals such as sheep shearing, milking two goats at the same time, making felt, coaxing rituals for baby camels, milking camel, catching a horse with lasso and lasso pole, catching a foal, horse bucking, Mongolian engagement and marriage customs and Mongolian children’s first hair cutting ceremony.

The herders group named ‘Dundsaikhan’ became the winner of the event with their demonstration of Mongolian horse customs. Whereas herder Suvd won in the cow manure collecting competition by setting a record of collecting 62 manures in a minute. On the sidelines of the event, colt race, youth wrestling and archery competitions were organized as well.
 
The organizers expressed their gratitude to local tourist camps such as Juulchin Gobi, Khanbogd, Tuvshin Naran and Palace of Nomadic Gobi Herders for supporting the herders' groups during the event. Coordinator of Green Gold Project in Umnugobi aimag D.Myadagsuren expressed her deep gratitude to all participants and group leaders for participating in the event despite the extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain and flood.
