Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Mr S.Batbold has issued a direction on banning camping trips and picnics in green zones of Ulaanbaatar due to high risk of forest fires. In accordance, picnics, hiking trips, entry of motor vehicles and other services in the green zones of the city are banned for an unknown period until the level of dryness comes down.
Young people willingly initiates gazelle preserving actions
“Dorniin Ikh Gegee” and “Tomo Building” LLCs’ young workers have built pools for preserving gazelles from draught. Due to the lack of rain in Dornod Aimag, a large number of gazelle has died of thirst. Therefore, workers of “Dorniin Ikh Gegee” company and “Tomo Building” company have built four pools in the steppe by sheer willingness.
World Bank approves Second Energy Project to energy distribution capacity of Mongolia
In the context of rapidly growing energy demands, a new project will support Mongolia’s efforts to improve the reliability and sustainability of electricity services. The Second Energy Sector Project, approved yesterday by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, will contribute USD 54.4 million in financing to help the government of Mongolia address key bottlenecks in select electricity distribution companies by upgrading aging assets and expanding distribution capacity. The project will also support the development of solar power.
MoU signed between Environment Ministry and General Agency for Specialized Investigation
In order to improve environmental policies and legal environment and activate inspections in the field, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism has decided to cooperate with General Agency for Specialized Investigation of Mongolia and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 13. The MoU was signed by Ts.Tsengel, State Secretary of Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and N.Tsagaankhuu, Inspector General of the State.
Mongolia to observe World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
On June 17, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought will be marked under the rallying call "Our land. Our home. Our Future”. On this occasion, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will organize Mongolia-South Korea scholars' meeting on desertification and drought combat on June 15 in cooperation with the Institute of Geography and Geoecology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Greenbelt Plantation project. ‘Mongolia sunrise to sunset’ marathon to run for cleaning vicinity of Khuvsgul Lake
The 19th 'Mongolia sunrise to sunset' international marathon will be held on August 2 at the shore of the Khuvsgul Lake. EcoLeap foundation has been organizing 42 km and 100 km trail run since 1998 and over 60 athletes from 21 countries take part in the marathon every year. Lake Huvsgul and the untouched forests, lowlands and mountains of the Khuvsgul National Park are a setting for one of the most beautiful runs on the planet, Mongolia sunrise to sunset.
Marmot statue made of hunting traps erected against poaching
A statue of marmots, made of hunting traps was erected in Bayan-Uul soum of Dornod aimag. Mongolia’s Network of Managed Resource Protected Areas with MON/13/303 project is being implemented by the UN Development Program and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. The project implementors jointly with the Department of Specially Protected Areas Administration initiated and financed to construct the monument with an aim to inspire people to conserve marmots and their habitat to raise the population and stop illegal hunting.

UNECE launches environmental performance review of Mongolia
The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Mongolia kicked off on 22 May 2017, with a field mission beginning in Ulaanbaatar. Fifteen experts from different countries and the United Nations secretariat will work in Mongolia for 10 days to review the country’s progress in improving environmental policies over the past three decades.
