FDI in Mongolia reaches USD 178.1 million
Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow in Mongolia averaged USD 178.1 million as of April 2017, which was down by 39 percent compared to the same period of last year.  As for the FDI outflow from Mongolia, it increased by 15 percent to USD 4.4 million. The net flow amounted to USD 173.8 million, which is 40 percent less than last year. Bank of Mongolia informed that the Balance of Payment showed USD 75.2 million surplus at the end of April.

Parties launch election campaigns
The presidential election campaigns officially opened this morning. The election is to take place on June 26. Three presidential candidates are Chairman of the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) M.Enkhbold, former MP Kh.Battulga from the Democratic Party and former MP S.Ganbaatar from the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party.

Discussion on draft amendment to Constitution to begin nationwide
Following Parliament's adoption of Resolution on ‘Ensuring sovereignty and participation of the people of Mongolia on Amendment of the Constitution’ on June 2, a press briefing was held by Parliamentary Standing committee on State Structure on June 5, Monday.

Issues resolved during PM J.Erdenebat’s stay in Russia
Prime Minister J.Erdenebat participated in the St.Petersburg International Economic Forum at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin on 1-3 June in Saint Peterburg, Russia.  At the opening meeting of the 21st forum held under the theme ‘In search of new balance in the global economy’, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat delivered a speech, the first time that Mongolia expressed its position at the forum. He announced that the door of Mongolia is open to investors, in his speech addressed over 6000 delegates from 66 countries. Prmie Ministers of Mongolia previously used to attend the forum as a guest.

Tour professionals call for equality in services for both national and int'l travelers
“Ulaanbaatar 2017” national tourism exhibition was held on June 3 and 4 at Sukhbaatar Square. It was organized in an effort to boost domestic tourism. Although officials say it is impossible to count the number of domestic tourists, an unofficial source told us that over 200 thousand Mongolians entered the specially protected areas last year.

During the International Transport Forum’s 2017 Summit on Governance of Transport, which took place from May 31 to June 02 in Leipzig, Germany, Mongolian Minister of Road and Transport Development D.Ganbat met with delegates of the People' Republic of China led by Li Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport.

Philadelphia Orchestra performs in Ulaanbaatar
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United States of America, the Philadelphia Orchestra visited Mongolia for the first time, performing its concert on June 9 at the State Philharmonic Hall in Ulaanbaatar.

B.Altangerel brings Mongolia’s first gold medal from World Powerlifting Championships
Mongolian powerlifter B.Altangerel (120- kg) won a gold medal in the World Championships of Powerlifting by bench-pressing 352.5 kilograms. The championships took place in Lithuania between May 22 and 27, challenging participants in teenage, junior, senior and master’s categories.

G.Ganbayar ascends into world-class football tournament
G.Ganbayar, one of the four Mongolian athletes who went to Hungary to study at The Ferenc Puskas Football Academy in 2016, is participating in the 10th “Puskas-Suzuki Cup”, which is taking place between June 2 and 5, as a member of Puskas Akademia FC.

“FIBA 3x3 Ulaanbaatar Challenger” basketball tour, which qualifies two teams for FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters, was held on 03-04 June at Sukhbaatar Square. A total of 16 teams competed including from Brazil, Japan, Australia, Spain, Russia, France, Czech, North Korea and 5 teams from Mongolia.

Indian USD 1 billion loan may be spent on infrastructure development of Mongolia
Prime Minister J.Erdenebat met with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during his attendance in the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2017 on June 2. The Mongolian PM informed that the Mongolian side is interested in dedicating the USD 1.0 billion soft loan from India to promoting infrastructure development, instead of financing railway projects as agreed previously.

Governments of Mongolia and Singapore exchanged a note on extending the length of mutual visa-free stay for all passport holders to 30 days.

First Mongolian satellite launched into space
June 4, Sunday saw the launch of Mongolia’s very first satellite ‘Mazaalai’, made by Mongolians, at Kennedy Space Center, Florida at 5.50AM (Ulaanbaatar time)with SpaceX Falcon9 rocket. The launch was supposed to take place on June 2, but had to be postponed due to weather factor.
