The Bank of Mongolia lowered the policy rate by 2 percent, down to 12 percent yesterday, on May 15. Accordingly, BoM held press conference later that day.

Advance payment for apartment to be provided to Ger district residents
180 thousand families of the capital are to be enabled to buy an apartment, pledging their currently owned land as collateral for the apartment’s advance payment.  Governor of Ulaanbaatar city S.Batbold today, 16 June, announced that an Apartment fund for air pollution reduction in the capital, which finances advance payment for residents’ to buy apartment, has been established.

World Bank approves Second Energy Project to energy distribution capacity of Mongolia
In the context of rapidly growing energy demands, a new project will support Mongolia’s efforts to improve the reliability and sustainability of electricity services. The Second Energy Sector Project, approved yesterday by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, will contribute USD 54.4 million in financing to help the government of Mongolia address key bottlenecks in select electricity distribution companies by upgrading aging assets and expanding distribution capacity. The project will also support the development of solar power.

Prime Minister receives leaders of commerce chambers of China and Russia
 The 13th General Economic Forum of Mongolia, Russia and China commenced on June 15 at Tuushin Hotel of Ulaanbaatar. On the sidelines, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat received President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation S.N.Katyrin and Vice Chairman of the China Council of the Promotion of International Trade Wang Jinzhen.

State Secretary of Foreign Ministry meets Japanese delegates
D.Davaasuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received Japanese delegates, who are attending the fourth Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on North Asian Security international conference on June 15. The delegates led by Takizaki Shigeki, Deputy Director-General of the Asian Oceanian Affairs Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 15.

Nine forest fires burning over the country
As of 15 June, there are 9 forest fires burning nationwide, namely, two in Yeroo soum of Selenge aimag, one in Umnudelger soum of Khentii aimag, one in Erdene and one in Mungunmorit soum of Tuv aimag, one in Teshig soum of Bulgan aimag and three in Ulaanbaatar. In connection with the forest fire and dryness situation, yesterday, Deputy PM U.Khurelsukh held a meeting with the authorities of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ministry of Environment and Tourism and National Agency for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring (NAMEM).

Minister Ts.Dashdorj: Income from mining to be devoted for processing industry
The mining sector will be a motivation for processing industry through the devotion of mining income for other sectors, in other words, the economy will be diversified, highlighted Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry Ts.Dashdorj. An open day of geology, mining and heavy industry sector is being held on 14-15 June at the Sukhbaatar Square, activities of the Ministry, its agencies, departments and state-owned companies being reported and requested information is being delivered to the public.

Central bank policy rate lowered to 12 percent
The Bank of Mongolia’s Monetary Policy Committee held a meeting today on June 15 and lowered the policy interest rate down to 12 percent. Previously, the interest rate was set at 14 percent by the committee’s decision on March.

Two Mongolian singers qualify for final round of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017
On June 11-18, the final round of  BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017 is taking place in Cardiff, Wales. The competition for opera and art singers held every two years. Currently, twenty finalists are selected to perform in front of a jury of distinguished opera experts and equally discerning experts in the final stage of the competition.

Major fire breaks out at Gobi cashmere factory
A fire broke out at the main factory of Mongolia's cashmere product manufacturer “Gobi” JSC, burning down the roof of entire factory complex last night. Authorities initially received the call at 10.45PM and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reacted immediately, deploying all available units.

Construction Minister reports on 1000 apartments project
During the Cabinet’s regular meeting on June 14, Wednesday, Minister of Construction and Urban Planning G.Munkhbayar reported that preparations were complete for the construction of 1000 apartments after necessary replanning of some ger areas in Sukhbaatar district.

List of equipment and spare parts exempt from tax approved
On May 14, during its Cabinet meeting, the Government approved a list of equipment and spare parts for small and medium enterprises, which are to be exempted from customs tax until 31 December 2018.  The Government action program in 2016-2020 indicates that domestic production would be backed by tax and customs service. Moreover, producers and professional organizations requested to extend the effective period of the previous resolution and add 623 types of equipment to the list. Considering these, the Government passed the new list, which includes 641 types of equipment of 27 sectors.

1000 families’ apartments to be built with Chinese aid
1000 families’ apartments will be built in Ulaanbaatar with non-refundable aid from the Chinese Government, in pursuant to the agreement by PM of Mongolia J.Erdenebat and Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang during the PM’s visit to China in May.  Recently, working group delegates headed by Deputy Minister of Construction and Urban Development Sh.Lhamsuren worked in Bugat city (Baotou of Inner Mongolia, Autonomous region of People’s Republic of China).

FM Ts.Munkh-Orgil discusses inter-parliamentary cooperation with US Congress members
