Price of flight tickets can be reduced by 20-40 percent, said the officials during a press conference held yesterday, June 13, by the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Hunnu Air and Aero Mongolia Companies.

Mongolian film wins Altan Khalis award
On June 9-11, the fifth Altan Khalis Independent Film Festival took place in Ulaanbaatar. The festival has been known as the first and foremost experimental film festival in Central Asia as Golden Reel International Underground Film Festival for 4 years. Starting from 2015, the film festival is broadening its reach of filmmaking world and, more than 260 films of 60 countries were sent and only 25 were selected this year.

Altai airport launches new runway
Altai airport under the Civil Aviation Authority in Gobi-Altai aimag, situated in the western part of Mongolia, some 1000 km from Ulaanbaatar, has now new paved runway. The  opening ceremony was held  on 12 June with attendance of Minister of Road and Transport Development D.Ganbat, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority L.Byambasuren, MP Sh.Radnaased, authorities of Gobi-Altai aimag  and other officials.

Parliament ratifies amendments to China’s USD 1 billion loan agreement
The State Great Khural (Parliament) approved and ratified the amendments to the General Agreement on Soft Loan signed by the Government of Mongolia and the Export-Import Bank of China on June 9.

Mongolian scouts invite volunteers for Asia-Pacific Jamboree
The 31st Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree is going to take place in Mongolia between July 27 and August 2. This year’s motto will be “Go Nomad!”. The 2017 APR Jamboree is gathering about 6,000 kids from more than 50 countries. The jamboree is being carried out from one station to another. The first station will be a Nomadic Culture Complex for international participants to get familiar with the nomadic lifestyle and traditions. The next one will be an Adventure Complex, challenging the scouts’ bravery and teamwork skills.

Voter turnout in the overseas Presidential election was 66.8 percent, reported a Head Commission of the General Election Commission which was in charge of collecting the votes of Mongolian nationals living abroad.

World Bank to support Mongolia’s efforts to improve fiscal and financial stability
On June 9, the World Bank approved USD 12 million in financing to help strengthen fiscal and financial stability in Mongolia at a critical juncture for the country’s economy.   The Strengthening Fiscal and Financial Stability Project will work across sectors to improve the quality of expenditure management, bolster financial sector stability, increase fiscal discipline, and strengthen the social protection system. Comprehensive support will be provided to strengthen budget preparation in all stages, starting from preparation to execution.

Tsagaan Suvarga Mountain, located in the territory of Mandakh soum, Dornogobi has been taken into locally protected area (LPA) by classification of natural reserves, with the decision of the Citizens Representative Meeting of Dornogobi aimag.

JCI Mongolia hosts Asia-Pacific regional meeting with success
Mongolia hosted the Junior Chamber International (JCI)’s Asia-Pacific Conference 2017 at home with success. In the course of four days between June 8 and 11, over 3,500 young people from 51 countries have attended a total of 81 side events. The events much deserving of highlights included the “Welcome to Mongolia” event, the Business Forum, opening ceremony for the JCI Garden and the JCI Impact awards.

Taxes imposed on hybrid vehicles to be refunded
During its irregular meeting on June 9, Friday, the Cabinet set the rate of tax on hybrid, natural gas and electric vehicles at zero percent until July 1 and at 50 percent from July 1. Resolution of the Government is valid from June 9. The vehicles to be covered under the new tax policy include full hybrid electric automobiles such as  Toyota Prius, which is the most popular used cars in Mongolia.

Railway wagons assembled in Mongolia
The first ever railway wagons that assembled in Mongolia, were transferred into service on 09 June, with joint efforts by the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, ‘Mongolian Railway” joint venture and private sector. Engineers of the Wagon Repair Department in Zuunkharaa, Selenge aimag noted that the five wagons assembled in Mongolia will serve for 30-32 years, while imported wagons from Russia and China have a useful life of 20-25 years.

Four bridges to be constructed in 2017 in Ulaanbaatar
The constructions of two bridges above the Tuul River have started with its groundbreaking ceremony on June 5. Specifically, the reconstructions of 312m long bridge in Bayanzurkh district and 289.4m long reinforced concrete bridge in Sonsgolon.

Naadam preparations with 60 percent completion
