Oil explorations being conducted on 25 sites
The Petroleum Authority has reported that they expect more than USD 50 million to be invested in oil exploration in 2017. As of June, 21 contracted companies are conducting exploration on 25 sites. Deals for exploration on three other sites and one open exploration, and a tender is underway for two sites, reports the authority.

Number of international travelers rises by 20 percent
In the first half of 2017, 2.8 million passengers crossed the border of Mongolia, which represents increase of 368.5 thousand passengers or 15.2% compared to the same period of 2016. Majority or 37.6% of inbound passengers have crossed through Zamiin-Uud immigration post, whereas 15.7% passed through Gashuunsukhait, 15.1% -- through Buyant-Ukhaa, 11.8% -- through Altanbulag, 6.6% -- through Shiveekhuren and 13.2% -- through other immigration posts.

Central Bank releases book on treasury
The Bank of Mongolia released a book called “Treasury Fund of Mongolia”, a compilation of narratives about the most distinguished items in the central bank’s treasury, as well as about the national paper bills and coins, commemorative coins and golden post stamps. The narratives are all written in both Mongolian and English.

16 wildfires burning in several aimags were fully put out, reports the National Emergency Management Agency in a latest update on wildfire situation.

Mongolian Yokozuna outclasses all-time record-holders in professional sumo
By winning July Nagoya Basho of professional sumo, Yokozuna Hakuho Sho, whose Mongolian name is Davaajargal Munkhbat broke all records in professional sumo, having claimed 1,050 career-wins and won 39 bashos (bimonthly tournaments). In 97 tournaments, Hakuho's career record now stands at 1,050 wins and 219 losses.

Tea Road Monument erected in Ulaanbaatar
A monument to the Tea Road through which, in ancient times, caravansary carried tea between Mongolia, China and Russia has been erected in the yard of Dulmaalin Monastery of Ulaanbaatar. Opening ceremony for the monument was held today.

“Silk Road and Kharakhorum” international scientific conference held
On July 18, in the city of Kharakhorum, ancient capital of Mongol Empire, the International Scientific Conference on “Silk Road and Kharakhorum” was organized by the International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations which is the UNESCO Category 2 Institute, in partnership with the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, Management Office of the World Heritage – Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape and Kharakhorum Museum, with the support of Uvurkhangai Province Administration, “Bayangobi” tour camp alongside the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, Erdene Zuu.
