Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga received the representatives of citizens, who volunteered with patriotic initiatives in times of wildfire hazard, and held consultative meetings to exchange views on August 2.

Mr. President noted “The fact that the public is volunteering for wildfire suppression displays their courage and zeal to unite for the country when needed. This incident showed that we’re in dire need for a proper management to administer and guide these efforts”.

The meeting was mostly attended by the owners of Facebook pages and groups that encouraged and organized volunteering initiatives, such as Pajero club, Turbo Tent, “Tuslamj Negdel” /translation: Help Union/, Fire fighter helping group, representatives of the citizens who collected monetary donation, some soums of Tuv Aimag, Young Cyclers’ Club, Hilux Prado Group, Association of Mongolian Auto Sport, Nissan Patrol, Central Gandan – Dashchoimbol Datsan, Sonata 6,7, “Shavi” school 2E class, Alphard Club, Mongolian Blind Association, ATV motorbike union, Rotary Mongolia and Rotaract clubs.

President Kh.Battulga will be delivering his gratitude letter to each volunteers of wildfire suppression through National Emergency Management Agency. And the representatives who have gathered were gifted the President’s letter on this day.

As of August 1, 2017, a total of 760 private entities, people, the Government and non-government organizations have sent monetary donations of over MNT 780 million to NEMA. Also, “Association of Mongolians Abroad” has gathered MNT 75 million worth monetary and materialistic aid from Mongolians living in 12 countries.

However, wildfire danger has not averted yet. As of today, August 2, a total of 14 wildfires are raging across the country, 9 of them are in Seleng Aimag and the rest are in Bulgan, Khuvsgul and Zavkhan. NEMA is sending backups to Mandal soum, Selenge Aimag. The slow process of wildfire suppression is also the fault of people’s irresponsible actions. The officials reported that around 70 percent of the wildfires were caused by human activities and carelessness.
