The Ministry of Health reported that 2,279 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the past 24 hours. Specifically, 1,752 cases were reported in Ulaanbaatar city, with 516 cases in rural aimags and 11 imported cases.

Cabinet orders measures be taken to increase social protection benefits
At its regular meeting on January 12, the Cabinet discussed plans to raise social protection benefits and instructed Minister of Labour and Social Protection A.Ariunzaya to develop a government resolution on measures to be taken to increase social protection benefits under the approved 2022 budget of the social welfare fund and submit it to the Cabinet.

Transport resumes for containers with import goods and products
Transportation has resumed for containers with imported goods and products that accumulated at the Erlian border checkpoint of China for three months. In order to create the conditions to have uninterrupted transport of goods under pandemic circumstances, a ‘Zero Point’ was established between the borders of Mongolia and China.

Ministry of Digital Development and Communications established
During its irregular meeting on January 6, the Cabinet dissolved the Communications and Information Technology Authority of Mongolia and approved the structure and strategy of the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications.

Bill to suspend scheduled inspections for three years
At its regular meeting today, the Cabinet decided to submit a Bill on temporary suspension of some types of state inspections to the Parliament.

PM orders decision on 3-day mandatory isolation to be nullified
Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene has ordered the State Emergency Commission to nullify the decision to quarantine citizens arriving from abroad to be quarantined for 3 days. Furthermore, he has issued an order to impose COVID-19 testing fees for citizens arriving from abroad at the airport and border checkpoints.

At its meeting on January 6, the Cabinet approved the structure and strategy of the Ministry of Economy and Development, and appointed Minister of Finance B.Javkhlan as its acting minister and Kh.Batjargal as acting state secretary.

“Loan interest rates decreased by 2.5 percent”
On January 11, the State Great Khural’s Standing Committee on Economy heard a progress report for the implementation of the parliamentary resolution on the strategy to reduce loan interest rates, which was approved by the parliament on August 28, 2020.

The Ministry of Health reported that 1,818 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the past 24 hours. Specifically, 1,227 cases were reported in Ulaanbaatar city, with 565 cases in rural aimags and 26 imported cases.

Colder weather to return this week

Works for renewing border checkpoints to complete in 2022
On January 10, executive officials of customs organizations convened at the Customs General Administration. During the meeting, it was highlighted that of MNT 3.560 trillion that was planned to be contributed to the state budget in 2021, customs duties amounted to MNT 3.509 trillion which makes up 98.6 percent of the previous year’s goal.

Military personnel to transport goods and freight to Zamiin-Uud
On January 10, Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Kh.Nyambaatar informed that freight will be transported from the Mongolia-China border to Zamiin-Uud by 200 professional drivers at police agencies, border patrol, and emergency departments.

Mongolia becomes one of first Asian countries administering fourth vaccine dose
Mongolia has begun to administer the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to its people on voluntary basis on January 7. Currently 66.6 per cent of the population have received two shots of coronavirus vaccine while 28.7 per cent have had the third shot.
