Masterworks of Modern Mongolian Craftsmen Exhibited at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum

Ulaanbaatar, July 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The triennial special exhibition “Mongol Craftsmanship: Heritage and Creation” opened today at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar. This year’s exhibition is being held under the auspices of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, in commemoration of the 390th Birth Anniversary of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar.
The exhibition aims to
preserve and promote Mongolia’s traditional
craftsmanship, highlighting the intangible
cultural heritage of blacksmithing and metal arts. It is
dedicated to supporting elder master craftsmen, passing their knowledge to
younger generations, and raising public awareness about the heritage of Mongolian craftsmanship.
In his address at the opening
ceremony, President Khurelsukh emphasized the vital
role that craftsmen and artisans have played throughout Mongolian history
in strengthening the state and shaping its national identity. The President
noted that Mongolian craftsmanship encapsulates social values including the tradition
of statehood, history, culture, symbolism, religion, lifestyle, and customs,
and - calling it a unique and irreplaceable heritage of art
and culture.
A total of 60 artists are showcasing 138 masterworks, with the top 20 works selected across four categories: folk crafts, religious crafts, decorative arts, and free-style crafts. President Khurelsukh presented the awards to the top four outstanding works:
- Golden-gilded “White Tara” in bronze –
Zanabazarin Khiits NGO
- “Silver Tsar Bowl” – Craftsman B.
Bayarsaikhan
- Golden-gilded “Steel Knife” with dragon engraving –
Craftsman N. Bat-Erdene
- “Hunnu Saddle” – Mongon Taltst Art Studio.
Additionally, 16 more works
were recognized and awarded with a Certificate of Chief of Staff of the Office
of the President.
Craftsmen and artists from the
Republic of Buryatia of the Russian Federation and
the Inner
Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China also
participated in this year’s Exhibition.
The exhibition is jointly organized by the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, the Tumen Erdenes Union, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, the National Museum of Mongolia, the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts and the Union of Mongolian Artists. The exhibition will be open until July 20, 2025.
