Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ After discussing issues surrounding winter preparedness, the Cabinet assigned Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin to take urgent measures directed at additional purchase of hay and fodder to state fund.

In case of blockage of road and mountain passes due to heavy snowfall, transportation cost for delivery of hay and fodder aid to isolated households increases significantly. Therefore, the Cabinet decided on November 24 that temporary state fund stations of hay and fodder should be established in Bayantsagaan soum of Bayankhongor aimag, Arvaikheer soum of Uvurkhangai aimag and Tudevtei soum of Zavkhan aimag.

It has been reported that around 60 percent of the territory is covered with snow in the aftermath of last summer, when about 80 percent of the territory underwent drought and the autumn, when mixed snow and rain fell, creating icy surface on the ground.

A report by the National Emergency Management Agency indicates probability of dzud in Bayan-Ulgii, Khovd, Uvs, Zavkhan, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, Tuv, Bulgan, Khentii and Sukhbaatar aimags.
