Inbound foreign passengers decreases by 41.4 percent
In 2021, 643.4 thousand passengers (in repeated counting) crossed the border of Mongolia, decreased by 672.7 thousand or 51.1 percent compared to the previous year.

Revenue from all types of transport increases by 2.2 percent
 At the end of 2021, 49.2 million tons of freight were carried in total by all types of transport. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the carried freight was decreased by 11.1 million tons (18.5 percent). This decrease was mainly due to the 12.5 million tons (41.0 percent) decline in road transport freight.

According to the preliminary results, the national currency in circulation reached MNT 1.1 trillion at the end of December 2021, increased by MNT 20.3 billion (1.9 percent) from the previous month, and increased by MNT 114.1 billion (11.5 percent) from the same period of the previous year.

Foreign workers in Mongolia decrease by 2.4 percent
In the fourth quarter of 2021, 5.6 thousand foreign citizens from 77 foreign countries were working in Mongolia with labor contract with purpose of earning wage and income or voluntarily without earning wage and income. The number of foreign workers decreased by 136 (2.4 percent) from the previous quarter.

General government budget expenditure increased by MNT 1.7 trillion in 2021
According to the preliminary results at end of the 2021, the total revenue of the general government budget was MNT 14.3 trillion, increased by MNT 3.8 trillion (36.5 percent) compared to the previous year. The equilibrated revenue of the general government budget was MNT 12.7 trillion increased by MNT 3.2 (34.1 percent) trillion compared to the previous year.

Mongolia’s economy projected to grow by 2.1 percent in 2022
World Bank initially projected Mongolia's economic growth to expand by 3.5 percent in 2021. However, it lowered the forecast by 2.4 percentage in its previous forecast released in June, 2021. It was noted that the rising inflation rate put significant pressure on the country’s economy in addition to the risks of new variants of COVID-19 and external debt.

Transport resumes for containers with import goods and products
Transportation has resumed for containers with imported goods and products that accumulated at the Erlian border checkpoint of China for three months. In order to create the conditions to have uninterrupted transport of goods under pandemic circumstances, a ‘Zero Point’ was established between the borders of Mongolia and China.
