Ulaanbaatar, May 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The World Press Photo Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, launched the first Thematic Exhibition “Down to Earth,” dedicated to exploring climate change and climate futures through visual storytelling, at Rio Park in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Based on the archives of the World Press Photo Contest, the Exhibition brings together a visual history of climate-related events of the 21st century from around the world.

Featuring 20 award-winning photography albums, the Exhibition explores two interconnected narratives, one of crisis and one of adaptation and resistance.

The first section of the Exhibition reveals photographs on environmental devastation caused by climate change, including coal and oil extraction, waste, rising sea levels, wildfires, and droughts. These images show how ecosystems and local communities are suffering due to industrial activities, urging viewers to recognize their responsibilities in addressing these global crises.

The second section shifts to stories of hope and action, featuring photographs of places and people striving for the world’s fragile balance, such as the development of renewable energy, science-based food solutions, traditional practices of the locals, and movements resisting oil pipelines. These images demonstrate the power of innovation and collective efforts, as well as the human capacity to live in harmony with nature through creativity and compassion.

The Exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on their role in an interconnected world. It reminds us not only to resist the ecosystem collapse but also to support and celebrate human efforts toward building a sustainable future.

Featured photographers include Abriansyah Liberto, Adriana Loureiro Fernandez, Amber Bracken, Ami Vitale, Anush Babajanyan, Carsten Peter, Ciril Jazbec, Daniel Beltra, Daniel Chatard, Eddie Jim, Jasper Doest, Jonas Kako, Kadir van Lohuizen, Katie Orlinsky, Luca Locatelli, Matthew Abbott, Michele Palazzi, Sandra Mehl, and Simone Tramonte.

The Exhibition will remain open to the public free of charge until May 30, 2025, at Rio Park, next to the National Amusement Park in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
