Mongolian Boxer Enkhjargal Reaches Quarterfinals at Paris Olympics
SocietyUlaanbaatar, August 2, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Mongolian boxer Enkhjargal Munkhtsetseg, International Master of Sports and Bronze Medalist of the World Championships, concluded her journey at the Paris Olympics yesterday.
In the initial two rounds, she defeated the top contenders in her weight class. Yesterday, she faced Türkiye's top boxer and World Champion Hatice Akbas, who was rightfully expected to win a medal in this weight category. Enkhjargal demonstrated an aggressive fight from the beginning. Her opponent, a skilled left-handed boxer, was excellent at countering. Although our boxer landed several accurate punches in the first round, her opponent had a slight edge. The result was 4:1 in favor of the Turkish athlete.
The second round began. Enkhjargal's attacks and punches became more precise and focused, but the judges again scored 4:1 against the Mongolian athlete. In the decisive third round, our boxer launched a direct assault, but it did not yield the desired results. The same pattern of being hit by left straight punches continued. When the results were announced, the Turkish athlete won 5:0, securing a bronze medal and the right to continue fighting.
Mongolian boxer M. Enkhjargal concluded her competition. She not only made it to the top eight and brought the first Olympic victories for Mongolian female boxers, but she also made history by competing for a medal for the first time.
