International Women of Courage Awardees to be Honored at White House

of State Antony J. Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden will honor women who have made significant impact at the 17th annual
International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award Ceremony on Wednesday, March 8. The
ceremony will take place at the White House for the first time in the award’s
history.
This
year IWOC-2023 Award will recognize 11 extraordinary women from around the
globe who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in
advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equity and equality, often
at great personal risk and sacrifice.
Mongolia’s
first female Brigadier General, Bolor Ganbold, who currently heads the Military
Training and Education Department of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed
Forces is one of the recipients of the 2023 International Women Courage Award. She
has been serving in the Mongolian military for 30 years. Bolor Ganbold who was once Mongolia’s first female
cadet and now is the country’s first female general, was deployed as the first
Mongolian female staff officer to the United Nations Mission and the first
Mongolian Peacekeeping Affairs Officer at the UN Headquarters.
She has been deployed to multiple international peacekeeping missions and has become a voice not only for female peacekeepers, but also for advocating peace, justice, gender equality and rights of girls and women worldwide.
U.S. diplomatic missions
overseas nominate one woman of courage from their respective host countries and
finalists are selected and approved by senior Department officials. More than
180 women, from 80 countries, have received the award since its inception in
2007.
