Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Ambassador Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, participated in a Plenary Meeting of the 8th Conference of the States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) on August 23, 2022 in Geneva and delivered a statement on the positions of the Government of Mongolia on global peace and security and disarmament.

Highlighting the 30th anniversary of the nuclear-weapon-free status of Mongolia, Ambassador stressed the contributions of Mongolia to global efforts in regulating international trade in conventional weapons. She also reiterated Mongolia’s commitment to the object and purpose of the ATT, a core multilateral instrument in the conventional weapons framework that works to strengthen norms against illicit use and transfer of arms.

The ATT is a legally-binding instrument that aims to regulate international trade in conventional arms and to prevent and eradicate illicit trade in conventional weapons. Currently, 111 countries have joined the treaty and 30 countries signed it. Mongolia signed the treaty in 2013.
