Mongolia reiterates its commitment to global efforts in regulating international trade in conventional weapons

Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations
Office and other international organizations in Geneva, participated in a
Plenary Meeting of the 8th Conference of the States Parties to the Arms
Trade Treaty (ATT) on August 23, 2022 in Geneva and delivered a statement on
the positions of the Government of Mongolia on global peace and security and
disarmament.
Highlighting the 30th anniversary
of the nuclear-weapon-free status of Mongolia, Ambassador stressed the
contributions of Mongolia to global efforts in regulating international trade
in conventional weapons. She also reiterated Mongolia’s commitment to the
object and purpose of the ATT, a core multilateral instrument in the
conventional weapons framework that works to strengthen norms against illicit
use and transfer of arms.
The ATT is a legally-binding
instrument that aims to regulate international trade in conventional arms and
to prevent and eradicate illicit trade in conventional weapons. Currently, 111
countries have joined the treaty and 30 countries signed it. Mongolia signed
the treaty in 2013.
