Cabinet decides to extend winter school holiday by a week

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its regular meeting held today, the Cabinet made a decision to resume operations of secondary education schools on February 14 with hybrid schedules that include a mix of online and in-school learning. Whereas, the university, colleges and TVETs will begin operations on February 7.


The decision to extend winter school holiday by a week has been made in accordance with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to get worsen by the end of this month and start of next month as per researchers.


During the press conference held today to present the cabinet’s decisions, Minister of Education and Science L.Enkh-Amgalan said, “The school operations will resume, with classes taking place in-person and online on February 14. According to a nationwide survey, it was estimated that the rate of students that have fallen behind of studies reached 60 percent, which is higher among the 1-3 grade students. Therefore, starting from February 28, the classes will start taking place only in-person. The regulations will depend on the level of disaster preparedness imposed at local level. As for the schools in green zones or the areas with zero local transmission of COVID-19, all lessons will be organized in-person”.


The Minister also called on people to celebrate Tsagaan Sar at home in order to resume in-person learning.


Moreover, during today’s regular meeting of the Cabinet, the ‘New Revival Policy Accelerator’ state-funded enterprise was established and the charter was approved. The agency is responsible for providing professional management and organization for the implementation of projects and programs under the new revival policy, and for creating conditions for coordinated and effective cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and international stakeholders.
