Accession to Green Card System discussed
Society
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Representatives
of the Ministry of Road and Transport Development led by State Secretary
S.Batbold held a meeting with the Council of Bureaux to discuss Mongolia’s planned
accession to the Green Card System, a protection mechanism for victims of
cross-border road traffic accidents consisting of 48 member countries
represented by 47 National Insurers' Bureaux. The sides agreed to cooperate in allowing
Mongolian vehicles to travel abroad freely under the system.
Mongolia has established intergovernmental
agreements on international road transport with 12 countries including Russia,
China, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea, Latvia, Hungary,
Lithuania, and Slovenia. Following the increase in the country’s foreign trade
in recent years, the Transport Ministry is working to establish such agreements
with Poland, Czechia, Georgia, Slovakia, Germany, Italy, Austria, and France.
Even though it has become possible for Mongolian transporters to make freight transportation in foreign countries with the establishment
of international agreements, insurance for international road transport remains
to be one of the pressing issues. Therefore, since 2008, the Transport Ministry
has been working together with the Ministry of Finance, Financial Regulatory
Commission, and insurance organizations to join the Green Card System. In August
2021, when the preparations were completed, a request to join the system was
submitted to the Council of Bureaux.
