‘Mining Governance and Transparency’ seminar organized
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. ‘Mining Governance and Transparency’
seminar was organized on November 30.
The event featured presentations from the Natural Resource
Governance Institute, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and the
Independent Research Institute of Mongolia on the latest research and issues
related to transparency and governance in the mining sector.
At the seminar there were representations from the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industries, Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Specialized Inspection Agency, Independent Authority Against Corruption, General Prosecutors Office, Judicial General Council, Ecology Police, and stakeholders and those who were interested in the subject joined both online and in person.
Mark Koenig, the Country Representative in Mongolia, gave an
opening speech and a representative from the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia attended
the event in support of the project. The project partners expressed their
gratitude for the information and research conducted by international
non-governmental organizations on mining governance and transparency, and they
exchanged views and expressed their desire to receive specific trainings as
part of the future capacity building work.
The event was organized under ‘Building Capacity to Counter
Illegal Mining’ project, which is being implemented by the Asia foundation with
the generous support of the U.S. Department of State.
